Cute and Cozy Casita
We enjoyed 4 days in this little hideaway. The casita is barely outside of the centro historico yet close enough to walk off breakfast and be in the hub of it all in 10 minutes! The casita has anything and everything you may require for a comfortable stay. As Janis was out of town, we were greeted by her two employees Juan and his wife Veronica who explained all we needed to know about the casita. Many thanks to them both. Don’t forget to take your glass of wine to the rooftop at the end of the day for a fab view serenaded by the ubiquitous Mexican roosters. Many thanks Janis for sharing this beautiful space. Great breakfast spots – Buen Dia on Pueblito , Via Organica , and Flo’s all within a couple of blocks. ~Carol L. Winter, 2016
Great Location! I recommend staying here highly!
We had a wonderful stay in San Miguel de Allende at Janis’ adorable Casita Aurora. Janis met us when we arrived and showed us around her place. She was very helpful and even suggested things to do and places to eat. The casita is a lot bigger than it looks on the website. There is a huge garden and patio as well as a lovely rooftop terrace with a swing. We did yoga up there one evening. Her place is spotless and decorated with a Mexican theme. Everything worked great and we even used the gas stove to cook while we were there.
There is no air conditioning, but the weather was so nice, and we never needed it. It was great to keep the windows open at night. She has a fan, hair dryer, coffee maker, and iron and all the amenities that you will need. Her place felt very safe and the walk into town is only about 10 minutes. The casita is located right between the Artisan Mercado and the Fabrica Aurora. Great location! I recommend staying here highly.” ~Debbie S, Summer 2016
I loved everything about this place!
I loved everything about this place! Janis is terrific re: rapid communication and is available for any and all questions (and many thanks for the local papers so I knew what was being offered – there’s *so much* going on in this lovely city!). The apartment is as depicted and so much more. I was welcomed with fresh flowers and lovely wine (which I enjoyed on the rooftop terrace overlooking the garden, and mountains beyond), as well as coffee, tea, milk, sugar and fruit to get me started.
Not a thing was missing in the kitchen, bedroom or bath, and the colours and decor were a delight. And the location is absolutely superb! Minutes to La Fabrica in one direction, markets and restaurants in the other, 10 minute flat walk to El Jardin and such, bus stop across the street if you don’t want to walk or taxi to the terrific Saturday organic market (not to be missed!), and so much more. And yet the street is quiet (but not secluded, so felt really safe) in the evening.
And the gym below is fabulous. Janis’ apartment was a terrific find, and she was wonderfully flexible re check in and out. No doubt others will recognize and enjoy it as much as I, so I hope it will be available when I return to this special city. Highly recommended! ~Laura, Fall 2016
Great Value, couldn’t have asked for more!
“This is a fabulous place to stay! The neighborhood is easily accessible to anything you could want or need in walking distance, and I always felt safe, day or night. The casita is extremely clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. Janis is a terrific host–very personable, helpful, and generous. Great value…. couldn’t have asked for more! ” ~Jody, Fall, 2016
My Retreat in SMA was just what I had hoped for!
Casita Aurora is a perfectly located, cozy, welcoming, light filled, well appointed, one bedroom vacation rental. Its charming and comfortable bedroom has ample closets and a closeup view of a mulberry tree growing against the window. I was delighted, as during the length of my stay, it came into full bloom and became the ongoing resting place to a bevy of finches enjoying its lovely canopy of leaves. The Casita has all the equipment and supplies you need to feel at home, a relaxing patio and roof terrace and is a short walk to restaurants, cafes and shopping. The proprietress, Janis McDonald goes out of her way to assure that your stay is enjoyable ~Gwen M, Winter, 2016
Wonderful 4 Month Stay in the Heart of SMA
Cozy, charming, and clean. Everything one person would want to have for a vacation rental. Decorated with a few lovely Mexican pieces and a bed that is the best. I slept very well. There are lovely places to sit outside, a fine Health restaurant and market across the street. On my next visit, I plan to spend 4 months with my two small doggies. Can hardly wait to return. Oh, I forgot the owner, Janis has a super fun personality and is totally eager to please you. Have a wonderful time in SMA. ~K.Ray, summer 2016
Wine and Quiet! Wonderful Place!
We really enjoyed our stay at casita aurora. Janis was very nice , especially when we had a late arrival due to our plane being delayed. Juan , one of her employees met us there and checked us in. Juan was a great help, he even took us into town to look for some open stores so we could buy some food, we had missed dinner …..the Casita is very well located , a few minutes walk from the Parroquia Square . there are several little stores close to the Casita ..and good little restaurants. A good one for breakfast Is Flor’s cafe, almost across the street…Janis Provided us with milk and a bottle of wine .very nice! Quiet, no noise from the street. as the casita is a little recessed in a huge courtyard, Luigi, Dec. 2016
Roof Top, Mountains and Wine, Perfect!
Janis’s place was comfortable and I really appreciated that after staying elsewhere that wasn’t so comfortable. After hours of walking San Miguel, it was a delight to come home to a comfy couch or the roof top swing where I could relax in privacy and read. I wish I could bring her bed and linen home with me – it was that comfy. The apt is beautifully furnished and clean – soothing to the eye. It was fun to be able to cook my breakfasts and the fridge was huge. This apt is close to everything in the center of San Miguel. Delightful organic store and tasty restaurant – Via Organica – is very close by and handy for just about anything you could desire. Lots to explore in this neighborhood. I always felt safe wherever I was in San Miguel – day times or into the evening. Janis was very quick to respond helpfully by email to all my questions before I arrived. I particularly appreciated Janis’ flexibility with check in – she made it work for me. And check out was just as easy. Sandra, Nov. 2016
Can’t wait to return!
Janis is a wonderful host and her place is extremely relaxing and in a great neighborhood. The garden is quite nice and the rooftop view is gorgeous. The whole city is very walkable and very easy to navigate from the casita. We are already looking forward to coming again, Elisa, Xmas, 2016
Great location! Lots of light, bright colors and outdoor space!
A sweet little casita close to all San Miguel has to offer. We did not want for anything as the casita is very well provisioned including filtered water! Janis ensured we were snuggled in by email as she was away. We were met by her employees Juan and Victoria who explained where everything going was in the Casita. Wonderful folk. Don’t miss having a glass of wine on the rooftop on the swing. Beautiful evening light and view. Muchas gracias.
Comfortable and Central
Very much enjoyed our 5 day stay at Casita Aurora. Nice to have a separate bedroom with a comfortable bed and lots of storage. Coffee in the morning on the little deck and wine on the rooftop was perfect. Nice views. Kitchen was well equipped for those who want to cook. We walked everywhere from there morning, noon and night. Safe neighbourhood. Also did day trip to Guanajanto. Taxi to the bus station came by in minutes. We would recommend Casita Aurora to anyone who asks.
We loved our stay and it was home away from home. Janis was wonderful anwering all my questions. She made sure we were settled and gave us a short explanation of what to expect during our visit in San Miguel. We will definitely return! Another thing I like to mention is that the view from her rooftop is beautiful!
Our home for 6 weeks. We were so comfortable, and Janice was delightful. Very responsive and helpful. My wife and I highly recommend and we would definitely stay here again if we return. A gem.
Quiet, Central location
Lovely private casita, well equipped, great location, easy 10 minute walk to the historic center and restaurants. Bed was comfortable, lots of storage, and very quiet at night. Janis was wonderful and responded quickly to e-mails and questions. The roof top deck was a bonus, great place to enjoy reading a book or a glass of wine at sunset. Thank you Janis for your warm hospitality.
This is a wonderful place to stay. I am definitely going back for a much longer stay!
This casita is is great! Lots of natural light all day long, access to a great spot on the roof, super comfy bed, and also big windows throughout the house that have screens so a nice airy feeling. It was also absolutely wonderful to be able to use the gym, which I did regularly. Great location too! Very close to grocery stores if you want to cook your own food in a perfectly equipped kitchen. Or, you are also close to some great restaurants. I am coming back in 10 days and staying for longer, for sure! Great for a couple, or solo.
I loved my stay at Janis’ casa. It was perfect for just me and would be great for a couple as well. It has everything you need to cook and feel comfortable during your stay. The location is great and walkable. The patios, fruit tree garden in the back, and access to the gym were all a big plus! Janis is very nice, available and quick to address any issues. Can’t wait to come back!
We loved Janis and her place. First of all, that is one of our favorite areas of San Miguel. You are close to Via Organica, the grocery store and restaurant that we love. They have great produce, health and beauty, delicious beer, an amazing Vodka, pretty much everything you need as well as the delicious restaurant. There is a bakery across the street, a pizza place two doors down, and Aurora, our favorite for art and shopping, just over the bridge. All this and completely within walking distance of downtown. We used the little balcony just outside our apartment as well as the table in the courtyard and the one in the back of the garden. We like to know we are in a foreign country when we travel and sometimes that means flipping a switch to get hot water, no paper allowed in the toilets, church bells and exploding fireworks through the night and crowing roosters through the morning. But it also means fantastic and inexpensive food, wonderful people and a charm and beauty like no other.
This was a perfect little gem, well located, in the beautiful community of San Miguel de Allende. We were surprised by the peaceful garden, the rooftop terrace with its unending view, and the sweet casita, which met all of our needs and allowed for respite.
